Revive your child’s connection with the Qur’an

Why Tajweed matters for every Muslim child, and five ways to help your child love reciting.

2 minute read

Learning to recite the Qur’an with Tajweed helps children recite it as it was revealed, understand it better and build a lifelong connection with Allah. Short daily practice, a calm space and warm encouragement make the biggest difference.

It is through the recitation of the Qur’an that we connect with Allah, gain a deeper understanding of our faith and seek guidance for our lives. As a Muslim parent, you want nothing but the best for your child, and that includes a strong connection with the Qur’an.

Why Tajweed matters

Tajweed is the art of reading the Qur’an correctly: pronouncing each letter and word properly and following the rules of recitation. It ensures we recite the Qur’an as it was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, helps us understand its meaning, and deepens our appreciation of the beauty of its language.

For children, learning Tajweed can be engaging and joyful. It builds strong reading and pronunciation skills, strengthens memory and increases self-confidence, and a supportive class helps them form a positive relationship with the Qur’an that lasts a lifetime.

The best of you

The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said: “The best of you are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.” (Al-Bukhari). Learning the Qur’an is a lifelong journey, and it is never too early or too late to start.

Allah says: “And recite the Qur’an with measured recitation.” (Qur’an 73:4). Tajweed teaches the pronunciation, rhythm and melody that make recitation measured and beautiful, bringing tranquillity to our hearts.
